MIT student, Pranav Mistry (Of Indian Origin) claims invisible mouse,as his recent innovation in the world of computing technology!
Background Check:
Not so long ago, there came a fuss in the WorldWideWeb, especially among young minds and geeks that, Mr.Pranav Mistry, a student from MIT, has come up with an Uber cool wearable gesture gadget, that lets you lookup huge amount of information anywhere merely by weaving signs using your gothic style colored fingers, and of course click a picture or two, aptly titled "The Sixth Sense". It was a huge sensation around the student community, featuring talks in TED convention and alike. Here's sixth sense prototype in demonstration.
What am I quivering about now?
Of late, Pranav Mistry has supposedly come up with a concept called "Invisible mouse" that intends to eliminate the hassles of using a physical mouse. The prototype supposedly cost them around $20 USD to make, which they claim, should go cheaper when made in mass production. Here's how the mouse works.
There's an attachable IR sensor that projects an "Invisible" 2D virtual interface on your table, and there's an auxiliary IR camera that tracks your hand movement across the surface. The resulting hand gesture on this area is interpreted by a software pre-installed on your computer system.
Sounds Cool??
Not exactly... How hard exactly would it be to use an actual mouse?? And foremost, I don't approve it as an innovative invention as this heavily resembles the already existing IR Keyboard. Both seemlessly work on the same principle, the only difference here being, IR keyboard came years ago and projects invisible Red light, so that you may type silly! Here's a pic of the IR or virtual keyboard.
For the note, I am not against Pranav Mistry, its just that, i wanted to bring this news into notice. And, to wrap things up, I remember one Guy asking a cool question, "Where is the Scroll wheel" in this invisible mouse thingy?
;)
Have your say!
why would u need a scroll wheel in invisible mouse.just drag your finger in virtual mouse created by the infrared sensor.
