Of late, there's a lot of mojo going on around '3D' movies and 'in-your-face' gaming experience. Here's how to enjoy all that, at almost no extra expenses on your part!
If you have been enjoying Hollywood blockbusters like "Avatar" motion pictures, and would love to enjoy the same experience with your games and movies at the comfort of your home, here's what you can do.
I assume you have a reasonably powerful PC with either NVIDIA or AMD(ATI) video cards. This is because we will be using proprietary applications from these manufacturers that will enable 3D viewing on our monitors.
Get a 3D glass
First thing, to be able to "see" 3D imagery, that conveys depth, you will need a 3D glass. There are professional 3D shutter glasses that probably cost 500$ and plus, but we won't be using them, as we are trying to take a cheaper alternative. You can use IMAX 3D glasses (10$) or the Red/Blue glasses (2$) to get started. There's also these 5$ worth clear/Grey 3D glasses that are actually better for viewing 3D movies. You just need to experiment to find the one that suits you. Now thats done, lets move on to the setup.
For NVIDIA card owners
Nvidia has been dominating the Graphics card market for a quite a while and has some great application and Add-On support. One such application software is the Nvidia 3D-Vision Lite, that lets you enable 3D on your already existing screens without requiring you to shell out cash for a 3D capable monitor. Sounds Cool?
Follow the step below to get started.
1. Download the latest drivers for your card from the link given above and Install them.
2. Start the nvidia control panel and navigate to the 3D stereoscopic settings and click enable
3. Put on your glasses, a series of short tests will now run analyzing and configuring your monitor for optimum results.
4. After the tests are over, enable 3d desktop, check out some nvidia 3d content here or just load up your favorite game and enter the world of 3D!
5. As for movies, you would require a thirdparty video player like 3dTv or maybe the nvidia 3d Vision player that processes your existing movies into 3D in realtime. However, older non-3D movies might not appeal much as they were filmed with conventional cameras, but movies like Avatar, piranha will look great!
For ATI/AMD card owners
The instructions for ATI card owners is pretty much the same, except that, you will have to get yourself a Third-party 3D stereo driver called the IZ3D drivers from here or here.
Installation is straight forward and the rest is similar to instructions as for Nvision.
This is just a basic setup and should be good enough for games and pictures. And when you have explored enough of these basic 3D viewing, you can then later get yourself a full fledged 3D viewing kits, with Shutter glasses that bring true to life 3D like the ones from Nvidia called the 3d Vision kit.
